| PentecostalTheology.comFor a large part of John 8, Jesus is having a discussion with the Jews about who his Father is and who their Father is.
John 8:54 Authorized KJV
Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God
In this verse, who is this "God" of whom Jesus says the Jews claim is the same as his Father?

They claimed God, Who is Jesus’ Father, as their God, but did the works of the Devil.

There is so much more in that scripture. Jesus claiming to be the son of God for one. The jews claimed to be the rightful sons of God, but the Father vindicated Jesus who the Jews were insulting in the pericope. Jesus called Him My father which the jews would never do. Jeus didn’t have to glorify or defend Himself as the Father was doing it. By the Jews failure to recognize that, it shows that they are liars as their true father is 8:55. Jesus is showing submissiveness to the Father by letting the Father and not Himself, glorify Jesus. Too much here as it shows Jesus claiming to be the true son of the Father and not a Bastard. Jesus proves they don’t know the Father as they say Jesus has a demon, but Jeus only did the will and spoke the words of the Father. Thus the jews prove they are not Abraham’s children for they would honor Jesus as Abraham did and do the works of Abraham yet they do the works of their Father – Satan – Has he lies and murders. Quite prophetic verse too. Too much in this section for a forum.

John Mushenhouse not sure which version Link Hudson commented on but to the comment by Duane L Burgess “Your God” not found in John 8:54 the greek reads
ὅτι θεὸς ἡμῶν ἐστιν…
which to me is pretty clear contrary to Duane’s claim
but I am MORE concerned with this
Is the word ὃν [of whom] as a pronoun referring back to με [me] or is it referring back to Πατήρ [Father] or could it be either way and thus not certain?

Duane L Burgess they were using the textus receptus — Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:—– others as you do use the more modern as the NASB our — the difference is between first person and second person personal pronoun and the relative pronoun that used in the modern to introduce the defining clause. Now please give me the reason for your choice of our. Not just more of your talk without backup, but some legit thinking. I have studied this problem some and perhaps you can share the difference of the variance, if any. What say you Troy Day and Link Hudson?
