Who are they in Amos 9:2?

Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though
they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: (KJV)

It looks like “they” refers to the posts in the previous verse:

I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel
of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all
of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that
fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall
not be delivered. (KJV)

However, I have no idea what those posts mean.

Could the they of chapter 9 be the them of chapter 8? The hypocrites, the misers and the abusers and slavers of God’s people.

It’s talking about mankind. No matter where mankind tries to flee, they will not escape. Every place belongs to God. And He is present. Hell and Heaven are the extremes of the universe, Mt. Carmel and the bottom of the sea are the extremes of the Earth.
