When the delegates meet at the General Assembly there will be three major concerns.
To honor and respect the church’s past and those who have worked and sacrificed
to get it where it is.
2. To inspire and motivate those present to take up the mantle and take the church where
it needs to go.
3. To rely on the Holy Spirit to direct the decision makers on how best to move into the
future.
One of the old hymns of the church is: Faith of Our Fathers, yes our fathers and our mothers did have faith and we need to respect that… living still, some of that faith was not fully informed and that’s where the next line causes us trouble… we will be true to thee till death. We should not be holden to their faith where it was misdirected, mixed with myth and wholly set in the culture of their time. Thus the challenge of the General Assembly. .

Jim, should we beholden to the faith of the present church when it is in error. Isn’t much of the present beliefs misdirected, mixed with myth and wholly set in the culture of the day?

Charles a baptist pastor and I were talking the other day and he asked me; how is the GoG doing? My answer was, it’s struggling. That was after he had already said to me that the baptists were having their problems ( albeit at a different level ) I think it’s the overall culture, the rapid change in our society, the movie industry, the financial inequality among the people, to many voices to listen to and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what the laity as well as what the clergy is having to deal with. Having said that Dr. Mark Williams and the other top leaders impress me with their concern and burden for the church. The church today is not our grandfather’s church.

I like our grandfather’s church and we need a restoration of it!

If COG is embracing Dominion theology why would you honor and respect those who are bringing that hell into the COG body?

All the while, being extremely cautious not to conform to the world while attempting to win the world. A church without HOLINESS is NOT a church at all but just another religious organization, regardless of which banner we rally under.

Holiness is defined by God. He sees us through the blood of Jesus and so what He sees and understands may be different than what we perceive.
