According to Mark 15:34 (ESV):

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Jesus spoke Aramaic in his final moments. Was this his usual language? If so, why are the rest of his words quoted in Greek?

The Greek NT mentions the Hebrew language 10 times. There is no reference to the Aramaic language in the NT. Even in places where the NIV uses the word Aramaic it is a translation of the Greek word Ἑβραικοῖς (Hebrew).

It is possible that Jesus spoke Aramaic to the common people and Hebrew in the synagogues and at Temple.

Troy Day Besides the Passion of the Christ, check good history books. Most Jews (including the Apostles) read Septuagint (the Greek translation of the OT). If you don’t know why, you really need to go back to school. Despite the Roman conquest of the area, the empire Greek as the official language especially for written documents. Greek became the lingua franca, except for Jews, who spoke Aramaic.
