[The Scripture says: “Whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed;” they shall neither be confounded, nor disappointed because of their hope! The almighty power of God complements this preaching to the souls of them that believe; and the significance is, they are saved; and nothing but the power of God can save a fallen, sinful soul?] “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because IT IS THE POWER OF GOD THAT BRINGS SALVATION TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed–a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Rom. 1:16-17) [Paul has now finished his introduction, and comes to the imposing subject of the letter; to SHOW THE ABSOLUTE NEED of the Gospel of Christ, because of the widespread corruption of mankind; so great as to enrage the justice of God, and call clearly for the punishment of the world: *He shows that all the heathen nations were completely corrupt, and deserved this threatened punishment *He shows that the Jews, aside from the greatness of their privileges, were no better than the Gentiles; and so the wrath of God was revealed against them also. *He proves that, the Jews and Gentiles were similarly corrupt, they could not be saved by the deeds the law; that they both stood in need of that salvation which God had provided; that were equally entitled to that salvation, for God was the God of the Gentiles as well as of the Jews!] “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because GOD HAS MADE IT PLAIN TO THEM.” (Rom. 1:18-19) [His invisible perfections are demonstrated by his visible works, and may be understood by what he has made!] “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that PEOPLE ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE.” (Rom. 1:20) [The ONLY true God was known among the original inhabitants of the earth, the ones who first became idolaters literally CHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD INTO A LIE: they did know the true God, but they put idols in his place.] “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and WORSHIPED AND SERVED CREATED THINGS RATHER THAN THE CREATOR–who is forever praised. Amen.” (Rom. 1:25) [It almost seems hopeless…] “All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Rom. 3:12) [Just wait!]
