I did not have the experience, so I was always among the seekers at the altar. The Lord gave great revivals, and souls were converted and sanctified, and some really went through and were baptized with the Holy Ghost evidenced by the speaking in tongues.[18]

In June of that year, Tomlinson and M. S. Lemons traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, to attend a meeting conducted by M. M. Pinson and Cashwell. Cashwell was fresh from his Spirit baptism at Azusa Street and was touring the South with the good news of Pentecost. Sometime after the Alabama meeting Tomlinson invited Cashwell to visit Cleveland; and it was following Cashwell’s sermon on January 12, 1908, that Tomlinson received his baptism. While some of the members and ministers of the Church of God had received their experiences in 1896 and the intervening years, with Tomlinson’s Spirit baptism, the Church of God was transformed into a herald of Pentecost.

What are you calling our beginning Troy Day? If the official CoG history counts 1896 as it’s pentecostal beginning, Then should we not? (Reference – Like a Mighty Army). And again that was 10 years before Azusa Street East or Azusa Street.

I wonder why they included that in our church history and not just after 1906?

Troy Day, I don’t recall, saying anyone was ordained. Please clarify your question. I do recall comma saying that, people of what is now Church of God, were already baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, before AJ Tomlinson ever received the Holy Spirit, as a result of Cashwell’s sermon on January 12th 1908. I am not denying Tomlinson’s influence on the Church of God. What I am saying is that people on this side of the country we’re seeking for more of God before the outbreak in the West. This is to illuminate that God was truly working.

And they also go back to 1896 and 100 people being Pentecostal Holy Spirit 10 years before your claim.

I did not say it did not effect the Church of God. I said it was (your words – a primary cotributer to the birth of the CoG – unless you are simply referencing the name change and not the actual movement).

Church 1st roots 1886 Holy Spirit poured out 1896 Azusa Street 1906 (10 years after HS, and 20 years after CoG beginning under a different name).
