– Acts 2:38 (KJV) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
– Acts 19:1-6 (KJV) 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Speaking in tongues is the physical evidence of a spiritual experience.
10 Reasons Why Every Believer Should Speak in Tongues.
1. Tongues are the initial sign of the infilling.
Acts 2:4 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
2. Tongues are for spiritual edification.
1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
3. Praying in tongues keeps our prayers in line with the Word of God.
Romans 8:26 (KJV) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
4. Praying in tongues stimulates faith.
Jude 1:20 (KJV) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
5. Pray in tongues keeps us free from worldly contamination.
1 Corinthians 14:28 (KJV) But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
6. It enables us to pray for the unknown.

7. It gives spiritual refreshing.

8. Tongues are for giving of thanks.
1 Corinthians 14:15-17 (KJV) 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
9. Speaking in tongues brings the tongue under subjection.
James 3:8 (KJV) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
10. Tongues remind us of the Indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
John 14:16-17 (KJV) 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Troy Day True the reasons are all good.but let me add an 11th reason why a believer should speak in tongues : Satanic networks cannot decipher whether you are calling for fire or thunder or lightning….whether you are calling for angelic assistance…..whether you are saying ” destroy them…scatter them”…They are just confused, puzzled, not knowing what you are saying..not able to interrupt or interfere for you give them no room to prepare….to fight back to plan..to hinder or block what you are saying.
One day demons screamed at me and said” Why do you speak in that language(tongues)…….speak in Swahili…(the language I born into which they understood…)…
True tongues is torment to demons..
it is the most vicious weapon to use in spiritual.warfare…prayer…(but this is just for those who believe and know that there is an on going vicious war.)
In the natural when a Chinese agent or Russian secret agent or any secret agent for that matter communicates their espionage matter, secrets or classified material to their home country , I think they will usually use encryption …or coded messages a language only known to the recipient on the other hand…
and this will confuse the enemy unless they have learnt the language…or codes ..or the secret language
GENUINE tongue speakers kind of bypass the demonic spiritual traffic lanes and lines in.the heavenly realms… where demonic eavesdroppers(?) , monitors, watchers, etc..are on standby…watching and listening to believers conversations with their Father.
They intercepted Gods reply to Daniels for 21 days..They had information of what was going on…
Tongues(for me) is a very effective spiritual weapon….very effective weapon for any child of God as long as it genuine tongues..
Are there demonic tongues?
Well If there is a language of angels(1Cor 13:1) surely there is also a language of demons..which is not our earthly languages like English or German or Swahili and many dialects which I am sure demons understand….

Tongues is a direct line to the white house…No presidential protocols…but a ONE ON ONE with the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE..not a mortal man…
Tongues is the highest honor God hss bestowed on man….
The verse says, whoever speaks in a tongue doesn’t speak with men BUT GOD..

Interesting note the number of people which do speak in church, but rarely interpret. I believe we need some teaching and further instruction in righteousness.

Depends if it is praying in tongues, or the gift of speaking a message in tongues. Only the latter requires interpretation. If a person gives a message in tongues in church, he/she should be prepared to interpret it in case there isn’t another person available to interpret.
