Render therefore to all their dues: honour to whom honour.” Rom. 13:7 , I think one of the best things I ever did from the pulpit was to a take a moment or two and honour someone in the congregation. We had two men in one of our churches who were postmen and in the midwest that often meant trudging through ice and snow. I lifted up their service and suggested that we all show our appreciation for their service, in my prayer I asked the Lord to be with them and keep them safe. The wife’s and especially their children gained a new respect for dad and husband and the congregation did as well. Over time I did this for nurses, steel workers, truck drivers etc..People came to realize that the person sitting the in pew next to them was rendering a valuable service, even fulfilling a God called ministry.
