Jim Daniel | PentecostalTheology.comHas anyone ever tried to preach the story of Job? I am curious as to how you would break it down because of the length of the book. Preaching only part of it loses the point of the text as an apologetic to explain why bad things happen to good people and, as I have seen on TBN, leads to very bad exegesis with passages taken completely out of context. I am thinking it would have to be broken down into segments and preached as a series unless you could find a way to present it as a drama which would limit the ability to do much more than tell the story. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I mentioned Job in a sermon this morning. “How Long” Psalm 13. It is the cry of humanity. Job says if I could just get my case before God. And of course Jesus is our Daysman. But the whole book. No.

I never quote Jobs friends. God says they were wrong.

I laugh when I tell this. But Job’s troubles turned around when he prayed for his friends. He could have saved himself 30 chapters.
And of course the same for Abraham. When he prayed for others, Sarah’s womb was opened. the next Chapter.

I once found 66 types of Christ in the book of Job. Many years ago.
“Let the day I was born be cursed”

Is that the one where the guy was asking for help and then started rebuking everybody for not knowing anything…

Just finished a complete study of Job, we did a cultural bridge to apply it to the people then and us now!
