Excavations at Masada provide us with a précis as it were, of the history of Roman Palestine from the Maccabees in the second century BC to the Byzantine period in the sixth century AD.
Masada could very well be the Old Testament site where David when fleeing from Saul in,
I SA. 23:14 “And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.” KJV
