The December issue of the National Geographic had a feature story on Mary the mother of Jesus. On the front cover they had a likeness of her and underneath called her THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD. Growing up pentecostal we always dismissed Mary as no more than an agent of Jesus birth. Yet in the long article it told of how millions of people still pray to her as an intercessor and take great comfort in feeling in contact with the mother of Christ. The article also had maps showing the many sightings and appearances of Mary in many places around the world. While I was in the publishing business a gentleman brought several negatives to me that showed images that looked like Mary, photographs that he had taken at a large gathering of Catholics about a 100 miles south of Atlanta. ( I carefully backed away from printing any of the images. ) Even so Lk.1:48 has this to say about Mary: “For He hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden ;for, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed,” What are your thoughts about Mary’s position both then and now?

I have no problem calling her “blessed.” I’m blessed; you are blessed. But to make her a co-redemptress is totally unscriptural. Why do we need to have someone to help us to get to Jesus when Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. We have the Holy Spirit to apply all of the truth of Jesus to our lives. I’m sure he doesn’t need Mary.
