Genesis 6:4 (NIV)Emphasis added
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
Is there an English equivalent for the word Nephilim here in Genesis 6:4? If not, then what exactly are the Nephilim?

Giants

Philip Williams 1393a נְפִילִים (nĕpîlîm) giants, the Nephilim (Gen 6:4; Num 13:33, only).
While some scholars attempt to relate this term etymologically to nāpal I via the noun nēpel “untimely birth” or “miscarriage” (as productive of superhuman monstrosities), a more likely reconstruction is the proposal of a root nāpal II, akin to other weak verbs, pûl II “be wonderful, strong, mighty,” pālāʾ “be wonderful,” and even pālâ “separate, distinguish,” pālal “discriminate.” This pattern of semantically related groups of weak verbs with two strong consonants in common is a notably recurrent phenomenon in Hebrew lexicography. Actually, the translation “giants” is supported mainly by the LXX and may be quite misleading. The word may be of unknown origin and mean “heroes” or “fierce warriors” etc. The RSV and NIV transliteration “Nephilim” is safer and may be correct in referring the noun to a race or nation.[1]

Billy Meacham problem is Philip Williams believes GOD took the נְפִילִים (nĕpîlîm) giants in the flood like some kind of a rapture and left Noah behind to deal with all world problems including growing gay-ism in those days

Troy Day Then he might want to support his assertion with some evidence which can be evaluated.

Billy Meacham lots of ppl might want to support assertion with evidence

Troy Day Look, having an opinion is fine, but it isn’t necessarily fact. If I’ve posted something questionable then ask or refute. That is how we progress in our understanding, even if we don’t agree.
Some time ago Philip asserted that the ordinary synagogue is the synagogue of Satan. I challenged him on it and he never answered why he thinks that. Nor did he provide evidence for his view. I on the other hand shared data from scholars which show how ludicrous his view is.
If a person wants to throw shade on a subject, especially Pentecostals, fine this is a format for that. But at least be honest and own up to shortcomings in your view.
I joined this FB page to engage in discussions about Pentecostal theology. So lets ALL do that.

Billy Meacham very well. Show some evidence that there was any synagogues but ordinary Jewish synagogues in the late first century. Consensus of scholars, many whom aren’t believers, carries no authority.

And context always clarifies the meaning. Pre Flood nephilim are not the same as post Flood nephilim.
“Strong’s H5303 nephilim; Gesenius says the meaning of this plural concrete noun is uncertain, but his preference is “those who fall upon, attack;” likewise Strong’s lists, “bully, tyrant, giant;” the noun is from Strong’s H5307 נפל naphal, a primitive root meaning, “to fall, to cause to fall, to fall upon.””

Ancient DNA (aDNA) is found in ancient bones of mammoths, mastodons, ancient cave bears, Neanderthals, and even dinosaurs.
“Thus, aDNA clearly points to a recent creation, as it simply should not be there if the bones are as old as claimed.”
“Studying the aDNA found in human remains has allowed us to fill in many gaps in our knowledge. However, it has also revealed surprising twists in the fabric of history.”
“For example, after the Neanderthals disappeared, Europe was populated by a sophisticated ‘hunter-gatherer’ culture. Yet, the DNA of these people tells us they had dark skin and blue eyes, a combination that is very rare today, especially in Europe!”
“Research on ancient DNA is now an established scientific field that is obtaining consistent results, and there are now thousands of ancient human genomes available for us to study.”

The basic problem with Genesis is that there were no eyewitnesses to the creation of the Earth, or man and woman, or t h e Tree of Knowledge. The entire story therefore not even hearsay, so there is no reason to believe any of it.
Anonymous
Troy Day No HUMAN eyewitnesses. Unless you ascribe to the elements of Creation existing before God shapes it into the universe we know, and thus reject creation ex nihilo.
Anonymous
Troy Day Jesus was eyewitness to his Creation.

Troy Day If you decide Genesis is hearsay, then you might as well ditch all scripture. The Torah is attributed to Moses. The guy who received the 10 commandments on top of the mountain.
