| PentecostalTheology.comHis Word Brings Stability – No Emotional Roller Coasters – Ray E Horton
If we are doing what we know to do, standing against all evil, speaking His Word about us, caring about others, and putting our trust in Jesus, we have nothing to fear. We gain confidence to receive by faith. Sickness and poverty and other circumstances will not have victory over us.
When we let our guard down and speak negatively, we sometimes are declaring negative prophecies over ourselves that are not from the Lord.
When we choose to rejoice in the Lord and pray with thanksgiving, getting beyond ourselves, we will be anxious for nothing, having the peace of God keeping our hearts as we meditate on whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and any virtue and anything praiseworthy (Phil. 4:4-8).
So, we overcome worry and anxiety with prayer, with communion with God. How?
- By Thanksgiving – that’s not a feeling, but something we choose to do, recounting our many blessings, and
- By Rejoicing – joy also is not a feeling first, but a decision – something we do, by diverting our minds and meditating on good things. It is then that our hearts will be kept in the peace of the Lord.
And we can do these things by faith since we know Jesus and His Grace, and who we are in Jesus.
Just trust Jesus
I learned to do this at an early age, and it has stuck by me. If I’ve done what I know to do, I can let go and let God. He is faithful. That is why it is so good to have a close prayer relationship with our Father. Sometimes Holy Spirit will show me if there is something I should do, while other times, Jesus just takes care of it, or gives me the peace to wait patiently for coming change.
The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never ceases, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I have hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him (Lam. 3:22-25).
We do not have God’s favor sometimes, and sometimes not. He is always for us, and never against us. Roller Coasters are fun to ride on, but we don’t need them in our emotions and spiritual lives. His Word and knowing Him in prayer will give us stability.
