“You have heard…”
The Israelites did not carry copies of pocket Scripture with them. They relied on being taught by the religious leaders.
So what they knew of Scripture and theology came from what they have “heard.”
Jesus came to correct the errors that Israel had been taught.
So, while they had “heard” what the Pharisees taught them incorrectly, Jesus told them the Truth: “I say unto you…”
