Why “private”? Were they “private” on the Day of Pentecost?

Thank you for your response. At the bottom of the blog below, I list a link to a PDF file with scriptures supporting the private and public use of tongues. When Paul wrote, “I speak in tongues more than you all, but in the church …,” I believe he was designating between his secret time of worship in spiritual language, privately, and the corporate use of the Gift of Tongues, in the church setting. Thank you for reading and commenting! https://pastordcs.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/afraid-of-the-ghost/

The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. •Acts 2:4 [KJV/NIV]
The speaking in tongues in this instance is the same in essence as the gift of tongues, but is different in purpose and use. •1 Corinthians 12:4-10 [KJV/NIV] •1 Corinthians 12:28 [KJV/NIV] http://www.pentecostaltheology.com/what-virtually-all-pentecostal-denominations-believe-concerning-speaking-in-other-tongues-as-the-initial-evidence-of-the-baptism-with-the-holy-spirit/
