We have all known bible readers whose reading didn’t take them any farther than their own education,or lack of it. Nor can they shake loose of their background and culture. For instance the story of Jonah and Nineveh raises new questions once you learn that Nineveh was right under where modern Mosel is ( in Iraq ) then you learn that the Tigris River runs nearby and it’s relatively small and is fresh water then you begin to wonder where Jonah might have been spit out by a whale size fish and how he made his way 300 miles or so the city of Nineveh? So that is why we go to college and travel because a short story taking up only a chapter or so cannot give the whole context.
