Contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Jude 1:3
1. Contend implies we have a fight on our hands. It is a spiritual battle of truth against deception, light against darkness. We must trust the Spirit of God through the Word of God to guide us into truth and safeguard us from deception.
2. Earnestly means we must have integrity of character and perseverance of purpose. This not a sprint. It is a marathon.
3. The Faith once delivered. This is the solid rock of divine revelation, inspired by the Holy Spirit and written in the holy scriptures. Don’t look for the latest trends. Don’t be dazzled by the hype. Don’t be pressed and pressured by this world’s philosophy.
4. To the saints. Look at the fruit of the early saints and martyrs. Now look at the modern day “angels of light.” Knowing the truth will set you free from sin. Truth leads to righteousness. Right doctrine leads to right living. The knowledge of the truth leads to godliness. (Titus 1:1)
Truth is under attack. It has been since the garden of Eden. The souls of mankind are at stake. Spiritual warfare is more than rebuking demons. It is earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the saints.
