Pentecostal Theology | PentecostalTheology.com2) The Bible says that God the Father, “Hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. (Col. 1:13). Clearly this verse of Scripture teaches that the believer is no longer under the dominion of darkness and has received deliverance from the power of darkness and has been translated into the kingdom of Jesus. In order for a demon to invade a Christian it would then have to be possible for demonic forces to invade the kingdom of Christ. This is inconsistent with the whole teaching of Scripture as Christ clearly is shown to have power over all (Matt 28:18).
3) The Bible quotes Jesus as saying, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Lk. 10:19). This shows that the Christian has been given “power to tread over all the power of the enemy.” To teach that demonic forces have power over the Christian turns this verse upside down and is completely contrary to the verses intended meaning.
4) The book of Luke says, “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils” (Lk. 11:20-22). This strongly implies that Jesus has bound Satan as far as Satan’s power to enslave a believer is concerned.
5) Jesus said, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation” (Mt. 12:43-45). The key phrase is “he findeth it empty.” This teaches that there must be a removal of the Holy Spirit from the believer’s life before demon spirits can come in and take up residence. This is what the Scripture says happened with King Saul, ” But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him” (1 Sa. 16:14). The only way I see being able to deny this is to hold to some form of extreme eternal security. I do not hold to an extreme form of eternal security and because I believe that a believer can fall from grace, I also believe it is possible for the Holy Spirit to be removed from one who persists in willful ongoing sin and therefore can be susceptible to invasion by demonic spirits. However, the one who has rebelled to such a point that a falling from grace has happened would no longer be considered a Christian. Timothy declares, ” Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Ti. 4:1). Please note that those who give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils have departed from the faith.
