There is not a gale between Genesis 1:1 and genesis 1:2.
Genesis 1:1 is the opening statement or theme for the creation story. Genesis chapter 1 verses two through the end of genesis one is a detailed explanation of what happened in Genesis chapter 1 verse one. Genesis chapter 2 gives greater detail of events that took place in Genesis chapter 1.
There are two things that you must remember.
First God dictated the book of Genesis to Moses face-to-face.
Second Bob Lowe distinctly records that sin, death, decay, judgment, and the curse did not begin until after the fall of Adam and eve.

Troy Day Sorry about that. It would not let me make a correction after I posted. I meant to say the Bible.

Troy Day okay I didn’t read the article. However, in Gen 1:1 God creates the universe and the earth. In verse 2 the correct translation for the word “was” is became as in it became without any “form” = usefulness and “darkness” = corruption. Some people such as myself believe that this was when Satan was cast out into the earth where he made the earth useless and corrupt.
