He manifested the ELIJAH COMPLEX, assuming that he was the Elijah that was to come…

I have a Messianic preoccupation!! am I special?

John Kissinger [04/17/2015 4:43 PM]
I think the question was to explore not so much personal failures, but the structure of a movement. Do you think there are similarities in the structure of the movements they started and if so could they be replicated in today’s Pentecostalism?

like falling to the floor in hyperventilation?

Fainting often results when blood flow to the brain is temporarily inadequate. This can happen as a result of stress, grief, overheating, dehydration, exhaustion, or illness

Some say Charles F came to be next in line as he thought it was God;s call. He saw the fall of Dowie and didn’t want Zion to crumble in shame.

John Mushenhouse Charles Finney lacked theological credibility, denying, for example, Christ’s crucifixion as a substitutionary atonement. It was written of Finney in his day that he stirred the people up emotionally to such an extent that, after he moved on, the people fell flat and could not be stirred up again.

Finney’s errors still plague the churches today.

      Do not be deceived.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. I John 4

Duane L Burgess I understand Finney as I have read every one of his books including his systematic theology. The thing is he was a revivalist until a professor. He saw people born again, but left town and they were discipled by the local churches. As even with Billy Graham there are emotional decisions, but many were life long believers. We need to see the whole historical context as we need to see the entire biblical context. Many only know bits and pieces and lack the breath of understanding of the entire.

Do not be deceived. Parham was a false teacher.

We need to be careful right now about our discussion. Reason: Millions of souls hang in the balance of what “OBVIOUSLY” Jesus Messiah is doing (invisibly) in the hearts of the young and the old. This is serious Kingdom Work being done by the King of the Universe and the Owner of Planet Earth. Please, hold your thoughts in your head. A fool speaks all of this thoughts, but a wise man can keep a secret.

Duane L Burgess Please go into detail about Parham and avoid the superficial surface opinions. Some in here have terminal degrees in both Theology and Church history so let us actually discuss instead of the simplistic blanket accusations which you are doing.
