| PentecostalTheology.comOur Lives Prosper as Our Souls Prosper, Now Delivered from the Curse – Ray E Horton
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2). John prayed this for The Elder (see vs. 1), but it holds true for us as well, and there is so much in this verse.
That health and prosperity won for us on the cross is not experienced automatically, as is the forgiveness of sins with the new birth. It is now available as a part of my salvation, but, I must tend to my soul – my mind, will and emotions – keeping my heart in the peace of God (Phil. 4:7), renewing my mind in faith, making sure it is doing well through my relationship with Jesus. Then I will experience health, and my life will prosper in so many ways. Even the medical world and modern psychology know this.
Knowing who we are in Christ gives us the confidence to run the race
But what they do not know is how our souls can prosper. We cannot do it on our own, by our good works. It is a matter of God’s Grace in Jesus. It’s by being at peace, knowing who we are in Christ, with sanctified spirits, giving us the confidence to run the race, growing from glory to glory.
We know our God personally, and we know who He says that we are and what He says we have. Therefore, we can overcome all the lies and accusations of the devil and receive by faith divine health and healing and be successful in all our ways. After all, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (Gal. 3:13).
Choose Life – We did that when we chose Jesus
The curse of the law that Jesus delivered us from was spoken to the Israelites in Deut. 28: “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you” (Vs15). Praise the Lord that Jesus obeyed and observed in our stead. Now we are delivered, redeemed, and overcome by His life within us, as temples of the Holy Spirit. The balance of Deut. 28 lists the dreadful curses from which we have been delivered.
Set before us are “life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life” (Deut. 30:19). And we chose life when we chose Jesus, so now our souls can prosper, as can our lives and health. We sought first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, so all these things are now added unto us (Matt. 6:33).
So, let us keep our souls prospering by renewing our minds to God’s Word, staying close to Jesus in prayer, and yielding our lives and concerns to Him. For then we will by faith be able to receive our needs being met so that they won’t distract us from our calling as ambassadors for Christ, advancing His Kingdom now.
