| PentecostalTheology.com“But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature {“flesh” is the better rendering – Christians no longer have a sin nature – Ray} [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. For the sinful nature {flesh} has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the sinful nature {flesh}; for these [two, the sinful nature {flesh} and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do. But if you are guided and led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law” (Gal. 5:16-19 AMP).
It Comes by Practice
Yes, we need to be established (habitually/practiced) in walking after the spirit to overcome the draw of the flesh. We overcome when guided and led by the Holy Spirit within our spirits.
Unlike my soul, I am not in touch with my recreated spirit by my senses, so I must learn and practice tapping into the spirit realm within me by faith. That is what it means to have “eyes to see” and “ears to hear” many places in the Bible. Let us use our spiritual eyes and ears before acting in the flesh. Praying in the spirit is a major help.
“Solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice…” (Heb. 5:14).
To become habit, spiritual things need to be practiced. The only way we become attuned to our spirit, where Holy Spirit speaks to us, is to habitually practice listening, which can include stepping out in the utterance/inspirational gifts.
