I have mixed feelings about livestreaming church services. Some will say “I watched it on Livestream” and my reaction is “oh good” but I’m wondering if they was sick, out of town, had no way to go, or some other misfortune that would prevent them from “gathering together” with the body. That’s great that they made that effort and shows that they wanted to be there. But on the other hand there are those who have the ability, means, and way to join together with the body they claim as theirs but don’t because they either don’t want to go out of the way, are lazy, or just unsociable.. they can watch from a distance and scratch their spiritual itch and say “I’ve done my duty”.. in those cases Livestream becomes an excuse for the uncommitted to stay uncommitted and unconnected..
Nothing can take the place of corporate gathering of believers..
There’s something unique about it.. The atmosphere of worship, the anointing flowing, God moving, are all the more intense in a “gathering” like that.
I served Communion Sunday.. we did “In rememberence of Jesus” like He commanded, Discerning The Lord’s Body. It was a time of reflection on the The Lord, a time of covenant renewal, and a unity in the body..
Only those who were there could participate in that..

Go to the gathering of your church body..

Some early church theologians believed that being part of the church community was a means for sanctification..I say it’s very important!

great point – should we stop live streaming? are we not ALL in the community of the church at ALL times OR just during service times?

God is a God of co-unity, there are certain aspects of Him that are only expressed in community, to forsake the assembly is to forsake the opportunity to experience the fullness of His presence.

While the digital version of church is good to spread the message it should never be used as an excuse to avoid genuine participation with the body.

Neil Steven Lawrence • The advent of video communication has made it possible for me – for example – to have a weekly pastoral support and accountability meeting with friends located throughout the United States. This technology has also enabled my parents to stay connected to their grandsons here in California. This is a good thing.
• The positive side of social media – to be encouraged by thoughtful comments, to see pictures of family adventures, to stay connected with others when physical proximity is simply not possible. Too bad social media is filled with such vitriol, anger, sermonizing and politicizing everything (even from Christians) and frankly for too much inappropriate material. This has largely ruined the experience for me.
