Changing ones heart to turn around back to Jesus. It doesn’t necessarily even have to involve sin. If we are going about life our own way without consulting the Lord for guidance, we can repent of that and turn to Him for direction for life.

Repentance by definition is repenting especially for misdeeds or moral shortcomings. How to use repentance in a sentence. BUT is it an action or a process?

Metanoia, a transliteration of the Greek μετάνοια, is “a transformative change of heart.” It’s a decision of faith, which, like all faith, is proved out by action.

“When he realized he was wrong, he changed course (repented) and started doing it God’s way.” “Once he believed, he repented of his old way of thinking, which you could see by how he lived.” “When he realized he was preaching false doctrine, he repented and changed his message.”

Free Grace: The word metamelomai is usually defined as
    “change one’s mind, regret, repent”
and expresses emotional sorrow over a past decision or stance.
The six uses of metamelomai in the New Testament
never refer to the repentance associated with salvation.
Laubach states that the term looks back,
“Hence, it does not necessarily cause a man to turn to God.”
    Vincent notes that metamelomai has
“a meaning quite foreign to repentance in the ordinary gospel sense.”
Gentry agrees with Vincent and concludes,
“It is simply never used in the gospel message.”
Indeed, 2 Corinthians 7:8-10 shows that sorrow, expressed by metamelomai, is not identical with repentance, expressed by metanoew.
In this passage, Paul explains that sorrow can lead to repentance or death.
Judas regretted (metamelomai ) his betrayal of Jesus,
but did not find salvation (Matt. 27:3).
Thus the use of metamelomaito connect soteriological repentance
with emotional sorrow for sins has no biblical or lexical foundation.
    Usually, the connection is assumed
without an attempt to explain any biblical or lexical relationship.

Dead in sin is one state of being.
Dead to sin is another state of being.
So true repentance is a child like innocence of Adam and Eve who were naked and weren’t ashamed…
