And Trump was even briefed in mid-August 2016 when he was a candidate about the Russian hacking of the election and still after that continued to say it wasn’t happening … Again and again and again, Trump and his defenders say that there was no contact with Russia, “We did nothing wrong.”

Interesting to know the context and where/when he said that.
In any case, he’s wrong here. And, it can be said that, anyone who believes Obama here “is ignorant” deliberately or otherwise.
One point, the idea is not to directly affect how someone votes but to affect the voters way of thinking that renders them to vote otherwise then they would have voted; that is, to vote in a way that is desired by the one influencing the voter. That is Russia’s aim.
And, imo, that is how Russia succeeded.
