More than 400 people of faith and supporters gathered in Border Field State Park in San Diego in support of migrants seeking refuge in the U.S. Faith leaders guided the group in a solemn procession to the border. When they reached the enforcement zone, they were stopped by a line of Border Patrol agents in riot gear. Leaders moved forward to offer a ceremonial blessing. Thirty people were taken into custody.”

30 people arrested for nonviolent action in support of migrant caravans
San Diego, CA (December 10, 2018) This afternoon, dozens of faith leaders were arrested in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience at the U.S.-Mexico border. Thirty people were taken into custody.
“As a Quaker, I believe there is that of the divine in all of us,” said Laura Boyce, Associate General Secretary for U.S. Programs at the American Friends Service Committee. “This belief calls us to stand with those fleeing violence and poverty, and to call on our government to uphold the human rights of migrants and end the militarization of border communities. In the face of unfounded fear, racism and violence, courageous action is necessary.”

Gerardo de Dominicis Jan Dixon Sykes your take pls
Gerardo de Dominicis
If they didn’t interfere with the police work, then maybe they were illegally arrested. To show support I think it’s ok and not being against the Scriptures as long as the protestors obey the law
Varnel Watson
Are you saying peaceful protest is interfering with the work of the government ?
Gerardo de Dominicis
No, what i tried to say is that a peaceful protest can’t be stopped unless they broke any law. (Sometimes my English works bad, sorry).
Varnel Watson
Gerardo de Dominicis I think you are alone on this one brother I believe even Jan Dixon Sykes and Bob Wizenhut WILL agree that in this country in the 60s peaceful protest also bothered federal government but we DID overcome one day…
Jan Dixon Sykes
It’s called civil disobedience. You know ahead of time you will be arrested and do it anyway. Hippies did that a lot.
Varnel Watson
you mean like Martin Luther the King? – are you saying MLK did the wrong thing in the 60s? http://www.pentecostaltheology.com/the-biblical-mandate-for-disobeying-unjust-laws/
Jan Dixon Sykes
I’m not saying either way. People do what they think is moral over what is legal. We all have different ideas of what we think is moral. Last month I chose to break into one of my own houses which I was not leagally allowed to do for 40 days. But the tenant had left two crying dogs in my basement. I was willing to face whatever penalties the city imposed on me to rescue the dogs. After finding the dogs in their own feces, I reported the tenant to Animal Control. They let the tenant have 36 to come get them. They told me I had to let her since her 40 days weren’t up. That time I chose legal over what I thought was moral, because I didn’t have a certain better solution. Animal Control said it was abandonment, not abuse and refused to take them, which is what I had wanted to happen.
Varnel Watson
What exactly are you saying then? – MLK did exactly what these people at the border did – what you call crime
Jan Dixon Sykes
I have no problem with ministers going down to the border and getting arrested. Nor do I have a problem with people crossing a border getting arrested. Nor do I have a problem with a wall to prevent people crossing borders. As I said, people disagree with what is moral. I think it is moral to require immigrants to be vetted and require them to assimilate.
Varnel Watson
That is NOT what you said above neither what we are discussing here. It is not a matter of CASE but a matter of conservative republican principle VS the liberal conservatives William DeArteaga posted about … Why would you feel MLK was wrong when proposing we should oppose unjust an unbiblical laws?
Jan Dixon Sykes
I never said MLK was wrong. He never led a caravan across the Mexican border. He broke regional Jim Crow laws. Nonviolently. No rock throwing. Got put in jail. Called attention to an issue…nonviolently.
Varnel Watson
I appreciate your time to respond However, if you claim the people of civil stand at the border were wrong, you also claim MLK was wrong in his civil stand and willingness to be arrested His peace marches also interfered with local laws and police orders
Jan Dixon Sykes
Troy, we are making different points. I don’t want illegals in America. I think that is immoral. I do want blacks to have equal rights. I think that is moral. Many of us disagree about what is moral & immoral. As for TACTICS, everyone is free to choose whatever one they want to advance their “moral” political agenda. However, they will also suffer the consequence.
Varnel Watson
I am against the point you are making about MLK opposing unjust laws. I would have called it racial long time ago if I didnt know you better – there cannot be 2 standards in this
Jan Dixon Sykes
Troy, MLK organized marches and sit ins. How did that hurt anyone? He wasn’t bringing unskilled people into our country who would burden our taxes, bring in drugs, & join gangs. There are two standards in consequences to the population. You think these are just all good, hard working people who are an asset to our country, please house them in your house. Feed them. Clothe them. Teach them English.
Lyn Wilson
I wonder if these same men of faith have locks on their doors or would object to someone coming into their homes uninvited?
Varnel Watson
and this is a great point of course EXCEPT no one is coming to their houses. Are you saying we now live in this country like behind the Iron Curtain or something? Locked borders – no getting in or out. Should the Church just simply AGREE with our freedom being robbed like that?
Lyn Wilson
Troy Day People were trying to leave the Iron Curtain countries, not enter them illegally.
Varnel Watson
How would you know that?
Lyn Wilson
Troy Day Well, there was this thing called the Berlin Wall that kept people in.
Varnel Watson
I know of at least 2 dozen missionaries who tried to get in and got in smuggling Bibles and then got out One from Denmark has a book now about his trips back then and it is actually called Caravan – kid you not What are the odds?
Lyn Wilson
Troy Day so why did they have to smuggle them in? Why didn’t they just have a big semi with “Bibles for the Iron Curtain” emblazoned on it?
Varnel Watson
you probably want to make a point which I dont get yet
Lyn Wilson
You asked how i knew people were being prevented from leaving.
Varnel Watson
in the same way the Caravan migrants are prevented from leaving their countries except under the Iron Wall there was this thing called political asylum that we seem to have abandoned in this liberal-Christians America
Lyn Wilson
political asylum? Okay. If they were prevented from leaving their own countries, how did they leave their own countries?
Varnel Watson
they formed a Caravan and ran as fast as they could – just like many fled Castro on boats and drafts…
Larry Dale Steele
I’ll say this I run into so many people that’s are in an uproar about this caravan.and the very same have illegals working for them I work in the construction industry and the same ones doing most of the complaining are the ones that hire illegal immigrants and pay them half the price they do every one else and then moan about the families having to get government assistance. Including Trump there is no telling how many undocumented workers that are being used in his different real estate developments
Varnel Watson
Yes MANY pastors in this very group – some have left if when exposed – admitted their grass or church work being done by illegally hired by the church illegal migrants. Cheap labor, they called it. Free for grabs. No harm done – good cash money under the table to help a migrant family for Christmas and so on Christian nonsense
It is called EXPLOITATION
and of course Christian hypocrisy its best
Larry Dale Steele
Troy Day it makes me sick that they throw such a fit ranting and raving and all the long taking advantage of the situation
Varnel Watson
There was a guy in this group a TX pastor I think – and yall know I dont like to talk about the person but about the problem who claimed to have gone abroad, helped migrants obtain legal visa and brought them to this country where now they cut his church grass. If there has ever been a conflict of interest… Just like I told Jan Dixon Sykes most ranch farms in her State area are manned by illegal migrants and the only reason we never see them on the State Report is because farm owners do NOT report illegal labor #hello
Larry Dale Steele
Troy Day a huge part of the construction industry is undocumented workers paid cash under the table it’s sad
Varnel Watson
undocumented polish worked for Trump
Larry Dale Steele
of course.. they work them for half the price and complain about our borders the way I see they have no right to complain
Varnel Watson
he is thinking of paying for the wall by using the labor of the migrant caravan brought there to build the wall 🙂
Larry Dale Steele
yes I can see that
Jan Dixon Sykes
I know of NO ranchers using undocumented workers. It isn’t that hard to get documentation. My former company brought foreigners from Europe & China to do work that no locals could do. Just a matter of filling out paperwork and getting them vetted. We paid them good. It was skilled work. ………….. Any workers Trump has are documented. The Polish workers? They didn’t work for him. Some subcontractor he hired to demolish a building did. I hire roofing companies. I drive by. How am I supposed to know if THEIR company has all documented workers? All I see is several people on a roof. Same with Trump.
Varnel Watson
you know of NO ranchers using undocumented workers? 🙂 like never?
Larry Dale Steele
The way it usually works they will get one documented and work all the undocumented through them or pick out some Radom women or man and contract through them it’s a crazy mess and I would almost Guarantee Trump has several working just like this
Jan Dixon Sykes
That is correct. None. Ever. We hire locals who grew up working cattle. Some used to hire local Sioux Indians for temp jobs. I live up north. It’s freezing up here. To say “most” is insulting to the honorable cowboys I know. The county where my ranch is has all of 800 people. Any illegal would stick out like a sore thumb. Everybody knows everybody’s business. ……… If Trump had illegals working for him, the media would be rife with it. They hate him and want to find him not walking his talk. Sorry, he walks his talk.
Varnel Watson
Jan this is a public group Let’s not make conversations about persona but about the issue and HOW to solve it Thank you BTW my info is publicly posted
Larry Dale Steele
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/06/us/trump-bedminster-golf-undocumented-workers.html
Jan Dixon Sykes
Larry, so the media found a worker who used phony documents. So she WAS documented, with phony ones. Her bad. Not her employer’s.
Larry Dale Steele
I’ll tell you straight up I am a mason I work around and compete with it every day I know how it’s hidden
Larry Dale Steele
it don’t take a PhD to see it just common sense
Larry Dale Steele
It really shows just how easy the Antichrist can come in all he has to do is tell Christians everything they want to hear and mention God every once in awhile
Varnel Watson
Larry Dale Steele that someone in this day and age of information would infact try to deny the Polish workers like it was never done is just sad It is a fact. Could the Caravan be used for the wall? – these people are here to look for work after all
Larry Dale Steele
I’m sure they probably could be .. but there is so much time and planning to be done I don’t see a wall being built soon enough that they would still be there it’s going on 3 years and so far all there has been is talk if a wall was started before Trump second term was up I would be surprised
Varnel Watson
Our hopes are still up. Trump is doing a great job indeed … in his own way 🙂 Nelson Banuchi
Larry Dale Steele
Troy Day ill agree in his own way
Varnel Watson
and I will agree in my own way 🙂
Nelson Banuchi
I’m not sure demoralizing and attacking our democratic values and institutions is “doing a great job” in any way. Break down the essentials of our republican democracy and you’ll break down religious freedoms, including Christian, and the opportunities afforded religion and Christianity to protest against immoral policies.
Varnel Watson
There are already being broken at large And any time you question current policies in place you get attacked back…
