| PentecostalTheology.comCreate in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
– Psalm 51:10
That was one of the most difficult things I have ever done.
I finally got up from under the big locust tree. A little revived. I walked a few blocks. I saw a tough looking young man. I was a little scared.
He just disappeared with the nurse. Crying…
He’s strung out on heroin. Been up for days. I prayed for him on the street, wisdom, courage, faith. I bought him some breakfast. I just got paid so I have a few extra dollars.
We talked about faith in Christ, courage, guilt, family, sobriety, temptation, disappointments, coldness of heart. He was at the Christian recovery home a few years ago for a couple of days. He said it was too intense.
I called the detox. They’re full. We have epidemic. So we walked into the emergency room. He has to lie. I told him sometimes you have to humble yourself. He broke down crying at the desk. “I want to kill myself” the most awful thing I think. To have to lie. But he’s going to die out here if he doesn’t get help…
I asked do you want to get right with God?
He said it has to come from the heart.
I said ‘then pray from your heart.’
So we prayed. I told him you may have to ask God for mercy every night for months. But God is famous for his mercy. He’ll take that guilt and sin. I quoted parts Psalm 51.
He just disappeared with the nurse crying and hugging me…
He’s got my number. Maybe God will understand the lying part and forgive us both.
