Luke 22.1-6

And they were afraid of the people.

Jesus had been challenged by the religious leaders. His responses to them only drove them even more to find a way to take Jesus into custody. But they were afraid of the people.

Jesus had won the hearts of the common people. The leaders could not take him publicly because the crowds would turn on them. So along comes Judas.

The time was coming for the end. Jesus knew this. All things had to work a certain way. An exact order. Hatred by the leaders. Betrayal by one of his own. Denied by one of his own. Beaten, whipped and then crucified.

who(Jesus) for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb 12.2

Jesus looked beyond all those things immediately in front of him. It would have been enough reasons for any one to quit. But for the joy set before him. Jesus looked beyond his death. He looked beyond his burial. He saw heaven. He saw me with him in heaven. He endured the cross so I could have joy.

When I feel like giving up. When I feel like quitting. I remember this: For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary [c]and lose heart. Heb 12.3
