When will the Second Coming occur? In Matthew, Jesus seems to allude that the Second Coming will occur within his generation.
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place.
Matthew 24:34 (RSV-2CE)
And in Mark, it is made more explicit.
And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”
Mark 9:1 (RSV-2CE)
However, in the later part of Matthew, Jesus said that the time of the Second Coming is unknown.
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

There is also the same contradiction in the letters of St.Paul. In 1 John, St.Paul said:
Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come; therefore we know that it is the last hour.
1 John 2:18 (RSV-2CE)
But in 1 Thessalonians:
For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 (RSV-2CE)
So, did Jesus and St.Paul expect the Second Coming to occur within their generation or not?

Spirit baptism yes. Whether the Spirit will make that elect speak in tongues or not, I do not know, so I cannot affirm on the tongues speaking part.

Troy Day seems to me “this generation” refers to that which sees the events described in Matthew 24 taking place. Mark 9:1 is either referring to the transfiguration, likely considering the immediate context, or it is referring to the post resurrection church.

I believe there will be a catching away, when the dead will rise. And Christians that are alive will be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye and be caught up in the air to meet Jesus in the air. That’s what we refer to as the Rapture. Because caught up means Rapture. Then I believe the Second Coming will be at the end of the tribulations.

I believe Matthew 24 is referring to the birth pains for the Rapture to take place. Then the Tribulations sets in.

Jesus says we don’t know the Day or the Hour that He will come. It will be like a thief in the night. We have to be watching and looking for His Coming. For in an hour as you think not The Son Of Man Cometh. But He gave us seasons and things to look for. He said when these things happen. It is near even at the Door. So it shouldn’t catch us unaware. We should see the signs in Matthew and Mark. And be Watching.

“Generation” does not usually describe a period of time, it describes a progeny, and the Church, which professes Christ, has not passed away.

Matthew 24 does not describe the Rapture of the Saints, it describes the end of the Millennium, when those who are sinners will be “taken” to judgment — “and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

I will agree it refers to sings of His coming for the Church also it does have many things that will be in the Tribulations. It does describe the Abomination of desalination. Well since reading it before I commented. It does look to be more fore end time. But I still believe Jesus will cone to earth for the thousand year reign at the end of the Tribulations.
