| PentecostalTheology.comYou’ve heard about it before. You knew this false teaching existed and here it is now before you…
The book by Tony Campolo called “How to Be Pentecostal Without Speaking in Tongues” was first published in 1991.
It represents a very important connection between the Latin America Social Gospel revolution as imported from USSR by the KGB and the embankment of new “charismatic” movements in North America (Canada including with the Toronto blessing and Airport revival) which would openly embrace Kingdom-now theology at the turn of the 21se century and invest into political campaigns to put in a president who can usher the Kingdom of Heaven…
In 1965, Dr. Harvey Cox wrote a book entitled The Secular City, as an attempt to offer a theology for the age of coming postmodernism. But in the mid-1990s, Cox wrote another book entitled Fire from Heaven, which served as a response to some of the questions raised previously in The Secular City. It represented years of his research in Latin America where he observed namely the charismatic renewal revival…
Tony Campolo was very much part of this movement in Latin America, which became the culmination of years and years of Social Gospel development and the grand pearl of Liberation theology. “How to Be Pentecostal Without Speaking in Tongues” represents exactly this departure from classical Pentecostalism and the development of new type of liberation theology known as neo-Pentecostalism.
Just about a decade later, Peter Wanger’s call for a New Apostolic Reformation at the turn of the century marked the becoming of neo-Pentecostalism as the Third wave movement – a new type of liberation theology contextualized within North American capitalism.
John MacArthur’s Strange Fire tried to address some of these hyper charismatics
STRANGERS to the FIRE told the whole story…

There is so much more that has been lost from Classical Pentecostalism simply because Pentecostals of succeeding generations have not made it a priority to stand on the Word of God, against Ecumenicalism and compromise and to be specific about what it means to be Pentecostal. We have let the non-Pentecostal/ Evangelical “Church Youth” movement hijack Praise and Worship to where they want the music and the fact that the young like it but they will not accept the implications of this kind of worship nor the manifest movement of the Holy Spirit that usually attended it.

Do you refer to snake handling or something else?
Charles Page
I handled a poisonous snake yesterday and got bit but didn’t die however it was painful. She was an administrator at AmWay University!
Charles Page
You can be Church of Christ and not speak in tongues!
Walter Polasik
Charles Page: Wait a minute now, you said you got “bit” by this, um, “snake”? Is there a whole side to this story we’re not seeing here? (In other words, a completely non-theological side? 😉 ).

Whatever happened to Charles Page was in 70 AD Ricky Grimsley

Yes, Cox was perhaps the only major figure of the Death of God BS theology to repent.

Troy Day while I am completely versed in both help me make sense of it all as it relates to liberation theology. This does not fit the definition of it. It’s harder justifying Wagner as writing anything as it relates to any form of liberation theology. I’ve never seen neo-Pentecostal described this way. Troy I’m not saying
You are wrong, I’m asking for clarity.
Varnel Watson
Michael Ellis Carter Jr. you are? @angel ruiz is the expert on that here
Michael Ellis Carter Jr.
Troy Day ok and more or less asking about Wagner?
Varnel Watson
Michael Ellis Carter Jr. but first whts your take on Compol See my last post on Wagner
Michael Ellis Carter Jr.
Troy Day it appears that campolo is focused on social justice, liberation some but mostly bridging denominational barriers and community ills. I’m not sure he wrestles much with postmodern thought as his objective as much as he is trying to Demonstrate that God supersedes our social constructs.
Michael Ellis Carter Jr.
I completely understand Wagner as a third wave voice just not one of liberation in any way
