John 7
8 “You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”
9 After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee. 10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.
I am confused.
Jesus said He would not go to the festival but, as soon as his brothers left, He went. Jesus doesn’t lie so how do I reconcile this?

My dear brother these verses and others show the humility of our Lord. He waited on God. He emptied himself of his divine privilege and glory. I often think of John’s verse if the things Jesus did were written the world could not contain them. Im not a Greek scholar I have to trust the KJV. he said “I’m not going yet” then, (in between the lines) he gets the release from God. Go. In the deliverance of Lazarus from death Jesus waited. Some of the purpose is revealed there. There are many fine examples of Jesus victory over sin and the flesh and the devil. This example in John shows Jesus voluntary limitations and ultimately points to his power as an advocate and intercessor. He suffered. Think of the adversity and unbelief in his own home and family. Is he not able to help us deal wisely with our family. To avoid strife and yet obey God. His powerless provided our help and grace. For me I think about Jesus the man. How he stepped down. I know I can’t do it. But he can. Hope this helps in some little unscholarly way.

The word “yet” is the important factor here: note its location in the KJV
Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
John 7:8 KJV
“I go not up yet”
Jesus didn’t say he was going, he told those with him to go ahead.
Time is also a factor as between verse 8 and verse 9 hours to days may have passed in which Jesus obviously received some signal from the Father that it was time to start his ministry.
This reminds us of when Mary Magdalene spoke to Jesus after the resurrection and Jesus tells her:
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
John 20:17 KJV
We never see when he presents himself before the Father but we can logically assume that somewhere between this verse and Jesus’ telling Thomas to touch his wounds he presented himself before the Father.
Never forget the time factor between verses: it can be major. For example there are millions to billions of years between verse 1 of Genesis 1, the creation and verse 2, the beginning of the reconstruction after Satan’s rebellion left the world in chaos.
