A woman is espoused often a whole year and even longer before the marriage takes place.] “When Herod the king had heard these things…he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them WHERE CHRIST SHOULD BE BORN. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.” (Matt. 2:3-4, 8) [What delicate hypocrisy was here! he only wished to find out the child that he might murder him; but see how that God who searches the heart prevents the plans of the wicked from being accomplished!] “And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt…FOR HEROD WILL SEEK THE YOUNG CHILD TO DESTROY HIM.” (Matt. 2:13) “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED.” (Matt. 3:16-17)
