31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
I appreciate Jesus may well have had witnesses / or did not even need witnesses. However, that does not get away from the fact that John says at at v14 doesn’t need witnesses and at v31 he does need witnesses.

‘Problem’ stems from reading out of context. In John 5:31 Jesus is simply stating that the Law requires more than one witness. Jesus points to 3 witnesses of himself: (1) John the Baptist; (2) Jesus himself; and (3) God the Father witnessing to Jesus through the miracles Jesus did.

May we say that the Law of Moses was used as one witness of God’s Son before He came to live on earth, Bro. Philip?

Bill Fleming yes, the Law and the Prophets were all until John and all witness to Jesus, though only John the Baptist was a living earthly witness to Jesus.

How about the resurrection, Bro. Philip? Who were the witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection? Why, even after hearing from an eyewitness that Jesus was risen, did the disciples not rejoice?

Bill Fleming yes, the resurrection was proof of who he was. And there were many witnesses of that.
I think they didn’t expect the resurrection or even think such a thing was possible. They could not understand what Jesus was explaining to them. But Jesus appeared to various ones over a period of 40 days as he gathered his scattered sheep.
