If you enjoy studying ancient cultures as I do you will have come across the famous library at Alexandria. It was at its peak in about 309-246 BC ( before a massive fire burned it down ) at that time it had up to a half million scrolls on every subject known to man in that period of history. Ptolemies the ruler required that all ships coming into their harbor turn over their scrolls; where there were many copyist who worked fast and then returned the originals to the ships. Ptolemies also brought together 72 Hebrew scholars and asked them to translate the Hebrew bible into the Greek, individually. That is where we got the word Septuagint and where the Christian world got its Greek translation of the Old Testament.

What is interesting when studying the Septuagint is how it translates certain O.T. passages like Ps. 68:18 in Eph. 4:8. Some scholars say the New Testament authors had a bit of a “free translation” of O.T. Scriptures because they were quoting the LXX. Read IN CONTEXT these passages almost meant entirely different things from the re-quotations in the N.T. What thinkest thou?
