Charles Page: I fail to understand how you can ask such a question, due to the fundamental status of holiness to our outworked Christian faith. The answer is obvious and should be taken as a given, (unless of course any here wish to start a heretical sect, that is).

The definition of holiness. Holiness is the result of a sanctified life. If you are not sanctified, then you cannot live a life of holiness. If you have been sanctified, it will be manifested on the outward adornment. The Church of God for 100 years held to what was known as Practical Teachings. They held high standards of holiness and God greatly blessed the CoG. In our modern world, holiness standards have been done away with, but I must say that if you wish to go in the rapture, which is about to take place very soon, you had better be living a life of holiness or you will not make it.

Is salvation one-time zap? Is baptism with HS one-time zap? Which in the Bible is not? Perhaps you too see progressive sanctification as a license to sin – one more night with the frogs?

Troy Day Again, putting words in my mouth. No, sanctification, progressive or positional, has never been a license to sin. As to the other things you mentioned. 1. The Baptism in the Spirit is a definite conversion or post-conversion experience evidence by speaking in tongues. No doubts about it there. Jesus said what you’d get at that point: not instant holiness but POWER. 2. Salvation is also a definite experience and two things are note-worthy here. a) We are told PRECISELY what the Holy Spirit does here. He makes new, He opens the eyes of our understanding to the things of God. He enables us to cry “Abba, Father!”. b) POSITIONALLY because we are JUSTIFIED we are also SANCTIFIED by Christ’s blood, by the FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS. (How many times do I have to repeat this lesson Troy? Dr. Harter needs to hear it because apparently, though he knows how to read Greek, no other Greek scholar, even Pentecostal ones throughout the world, will agree with him that the Greek, much less the English, supports this doctrine). That is why Paul tells us to “work out your salvation with fear and trembling”. Why if it’s already accomplished? Well, it is, but our POSITIONAL holiness must now be worked out in our every-day life. Day by day, led by the Spirit, taught by the Word sanctified by the written and living Word. At no place will you find Paul or anyone else teaching “zap sanctification”. Ain’t there. And why would it need to be? The Baptism in the Spirit can also take place at the New Birth. Why separate what the Spirit does in THREE installments? And how can you be saved and JUSTIFIED before God without also being SANCTIFIED that moment to stand in the presence of God? Now, applying the “Entire Sanctification” theory we really DO have a case of “haves” (boastful Christians) and have-nots. But thankfully the theory is fictitious and has no biblical grounds. Jesus sanctifies those whom He saves. BTW, this DOESN’T mean that they will never sin again. Anyone who claims that never read Romans 7 or 2 Peter 1. Now, I hope I’ve laid this theological fossil to rest finally. Let’s move on to real theology.

Actually simply repeated your use of “one-time” zap. Obviously you lack the theological understanding of entire sanctification; but more importantly, as indicated earlier people who have not experienced entire sanctification may do well just not talking like they have…
