A Brief Oneness Pentecostal Response

The Society of Pentecostal Theology proposed a forum based on mutual respect and Christian courtesy that would not only allow civil discourse but open-hearted discussion not tainted by invective or preconceptions. This we obviously appreciate, and we thank SPS for this opportunity. Those who represented the Trinitarian view exemplified this attitude in every way. We always stand ready to present the doctrines that define us in any such atmosphere to open-hearted people, and we pledge our willingness to examine God’s Word to better know Him who gave His life to save all who seek Him diligently.

While not assuming to speak for any other Oneness organization, the United Pentecostal Church International was pleased that some of its minis- ters were invited to represent the Oneness position in the series of discussions that culminated with the written report. We were supportive of this process primarily because we are convinced of the truth of the powerful and beautiful doctrine of the Oneness of God, and because of that we believe it will stand the most demanding scholarly examination. Truth need not be coddled or protected, but should be freely discussed and rigorously examined. We wish to always follow the scriptural admonition of I Peter 3:15: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” This attitude of respectful humility in discussing our beliefs was our goal, and the outstanding people who represented our position accomplished it admirably.
