There is no biblical difference between a pastor and Bishop. Women preached in the bible and I have personally heard good ones myself. If a church wants a woman pastor and she wants to then so be it.

Jesus appointed some to be “Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers”…in my opinion it is not up to the church, but Jesus, by the agency of the Holy Spirit, to ordain those whom He wishes to lead and serve His church. Our part lies in simply recognizing those who have been chosen and assisting them in fulfilling their call…”If it seems good to the Holy Spirit” it should be good enough for the CoG.

Tom Steele I got a computer question for you when you’re available bro. It would “seem good to the Holy Spirit” in my opinion if the person regardless of gender manifested the genuine gifts associated with leadership as outlined in Ephesians 4 / Romans 12 / 1 Corinthians 12. If they have a clear, God given gift, are living and walking in the Spirit, bear the fruit of the Spirit and the Spirit gives witness to their ministry through both the miraculous and the mundane evidence generally agreed upon to represent the approval of the Spirit. I actually have much more of a problem with what is commonly called Apostolic and Prophetic ministry today than I have with any woman who genuinely preaches the full gospel of Jesus Christ. Tom Steele you are raising a very valid question. We noticed you were missing and wondered about it. Additionally you topic was archived on the site http://www.pentecostaltheology.com/i-hereby-challenge-all-bacon-lovers-ham-eaters-and-all/ but was temporary unavailable on FB (it’s now OK). At the same time FB blocked many interesting and hard fought discussions in the group. We’ve been able to archive most of them but not all. I find it appalling that members of this group would report each other to FB b/c they cannot win an argument or doctrinally disagree. Charles Page reported an issue one time but he was very open about it and we worked through it as brothers and friends. If there’s a problem his example of open discussions should be followed. Reporting of a fellow believer is a bad choice as FB is banning Christians anyway. The groups admin account was also reported by a group member and we have not been able to recover it yet. It is sad choice to report just because you disagree or cannot win the argument!

This year’s General Assembly (Church of God, TN) will be held in Nashville, in July.
On the agenda is whether or not to open the International General Council to “ordained ministers” instead of only “ordained bishops.”
This move is not only to open the doors to a more congregational approach (in allowing all ordained ministers to vote in the Council) but also in allowing ordained women into a very highly prized “men-only” group.
You can bet I am doing all I can to attend, and to vote on this.
My pastor, however, is of the old-school variety, bless his heart.
I love my pastor, and would never get into an argument with him over anything. However, he isn’t well-educated, and frankly, leans on tradition for safety, instead of on the Lord alone. It’s very hard for him to think outside of the box…outside of what he was always taught in the Church of God.
I really feel like the scriptures cited for keeping men in total control of the business end of church matters is so unrelated, that it feels like they’re grasping at straws to preserve their hierarchy
.1Co 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1Co 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
Does this passage (or its context) say anything about who’s supposed to run the business of the church? does it say anything about finances? Does it say anything about church policy or agendas?
No. It very clearly is a directive to make the women shut up and sit down, every time the church comes together. It’s talking about women taking part in what the whole chapter is about: exercise of spiritual gifts.
It’s abusing Scripture to use this passage to try to make it say something else.
But of course, to the uneducated, this passage looks like Paul is giving a command, and it just doesn’t fit with the Day of Pentecost, or even with what Paul just said in I Cor 11, about women prophesying.
So they have to find SOME way of applying it, even if it isn’t what it actually says.
But its about time we straightened out our understanding and application of Scripture. This generation is educated enough to understand this was a question (quoted from the letter we no longer have, from Corinth to Paul) and his answer is found in the verse immediately following:
1Co 14:36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
Of course the word of God didn’t come out from men only. Nor did the word of God come only TO men. The word down through the ages came to and through both men and women.
It’s high time we got this done in the Church of God, and laid down some of this struggle for hierarchy. That’s a problem too. Jesus said we weren’t supposed to struggle to rule each other. It’s a carry-over from their Baptist heritage… and it’s time they stepped out of that fleshly approach.

I just completed the CAMS course of studies. I have had to study the COG stance on a lot of things, including this scripture.
Where am I getting what I believe from?
The Holy Ghost, and the Scriptures themselves.
If you look at I Cor 14:36, and look at the Greek word translated “What?” …You will find it is a “disjunctive conjunction.”
This means it links two thoughts together, and is used to state an OPPOSITION to the preceding thought.
In English, we have disjunctive conjunctions, too.
Like, “But,” However,” and “Notwithstanding.”
Any of those would fit the beginning of verse 36.
