AS THEY WERE MENT TO FUNCTION – Ray E Horton
Just back, and still feeling high in the Lord having let Him take charge of our gathering by His Spirit.
With some churches re-closing, seven of us gathered and had a great time in the Lord. We used the scriptural order seen in 1 Cor. 14:26 and all were edified:
Following Scriptural Order
Each person has something valuable to give out of their prayer times or experience. We gather to give, not to get, and in that giving we receive
“Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.”
This gathering was a “whenever.” It was “each of you,” not some of you. Each person has something valuable to give out of their prayer times or experience. We gather to give, not to get, and in that giving we receive. Teaching and revelations came forth from God’s Word. Tongues and prophecy are encouraged. A dream was shared, we prayed over one person for tongues, and prayed over prayer needs and for our nation.
“For just as we have many parts in one body, and not all parts have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and all are parts of one another” (Romans 12:4-5).
Then, before leaving, we broke bread together. Our host had cooked up some tasty sausage, and that was accompanied with spinach and fruit salad.
Not Replacing but Complementing Church
Everyone is built up and strengthened in the Lord gaining that much more to bring back to the larger church
We don’t pretend or believe a meeting like this replaces the larger church gathering, but it sure was refreshing, and everyone was built up and strengthened in the Lord with that much more to bring back to the larger church.
“And continuing daily with one mind in the temple [now represented by the institutional church], and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart” (Acts 2:46).
We are gathering again tomorrow for a time of prayer.
I thank the Lord for a fresh outpouring that is currently happening in the hearts of believers, reviving them and causing us to want to assemble in unity and love as an effective witness. This kind of organic spiritual growth everywhere is what it will take to bring in the harvest.
