I got blocked on that Catholic discussion page. For asking too many questions (actually I deleted a post I guess that’s not allowed). Does anybody have a list of where the apostles and Jesus apparently quoted from the Apocrypha? The one Catholic posted a list and I started to pick it apart and they lost interest.
The list said that Jesus in Matt 4:4 “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Was quoting from

Wisdom 16:26 ” That thy children, O Lord, whom thou lovest, might know, that it is not the growing of fruits that nourisheth man: but that it is thy word, which preserveth them that put their trust in thee.”

But was obviously quoted from

Deut 8:3 “that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.”

I need a list worthy of real consideration.

Matt. 6:19-20 – Jesus’ statement about laying up for yourselves treasure in heaven follows Sirach 29:11 – lay up your treasure.

Matt 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal”

    Sirach 29:11
“Lay up thy treasure according to the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold.”

Matt… 7:12 – Jesus’ golden rule “do unto others” is the converse of Tobit 4:15 – what you hate, do not do to others.

Matt 7:12 “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets”

Matt. 7:16,20 – Jesus’ statement “you will know them by their fruits” follows Sirach 27:6 – the fruit discloses the cultivation.

Matt 7:16 “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” Vs 20 “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them”

Sirach 27:6 “The fruit declareth if the tree have been dressed; so is the utterance of a conceit in the heart of man.”

Matt. 9:36 – the people were “like sheep without a shepherd” is same as Judith 11:19 – sheep without a shepherd.

Matt 9:36 “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd”

Judith 11:19 “And I will lead thee through the midst of Judea, until thou come before Jerusalem; and I will set thy throne in the midst thereof; and thou shalt drive them as sheep that have no shepherd, and a dog shall not so much as open his mouth at thee: for these things were told me according to my foreknowledge, and they were declared unto me, and I am sent to tell thee.”

Matt. 11:25 – Jesus’ description “Lord of heaven and earth” is the same as Tobit 7:18 – Lord of heaven and earth.

Matt 12:42 “The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.”

Obviously talking about the Queen of Sheba actually visiting the actual person King Solomon……Wow…..

Matt. 16:18 – Jesus’ reference to the “power of death” and “gates of Hades” references Wisdom 16:13.

Tobit 7:11 “I have given my daughter in marriage to seven men, who died that night they came in unto her: nevertheless for the present be merry. But Tobias said, I will eat nothing here, till we agree and swear one to another.”

Matt. 24:15 – the “desolating sacrilege” Jesus refers to is also taken from 1 Macc. 1:54 and 2 Macc. 8:17.

Matt 24:15 “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

1st Macc 1:54 ” Now the fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and fifth year, they set up the abomination of desolation upon the altar, and builded idol altars throughout the cities of Juda on every side”

Sirach 40:15 ” The children of the ungodly shall not bring forth many branches: but are as unclean roots upon a hard rock.”

All I did was take the list that you can see in the link that I got from a Catholic. And pasted every single quote next to each other so you can see that them claiming Jesus quoted from the Apocrypha is very dubious Otherwise, they wouldn’t have to fabricate a list like this and look it’s from an official Catholic website.

Jesus did not quote them as Scriptures.

The apocryphal writings were never quoted by Jesus.. Which is one reason they were disqualified.

Speaking as an ex-catholic we were not permitted to read the Bible. The Church traditions and teachings are foremost because only the Church and the clergy has ‘the authority’ to interpret the Bible. I’ve not known many Catholics who could quote Scripture, let alone in context.
