Nothing to do with the environment – this is about trusting people with an agenda and formulating a response – boils down to the age old dispute over just how literally does the church take the scripture, and whether the church accepts observation over revelation – stewardship? Of course, but this political movement isn’t about stewardship – it’s about power, influence, and control based on selectively biased scientific presumption – the tragedy is that the enemy is attempting to create the optic of connecting and subjugating the witness of the Body of Christ to imperical temporalities, and succeeding in eliciting a well intended but blatant violation of 2 Tim 2:4

Irrespective of one’s eschatological views, or political views, the cross is all about restoration and the inauguration of God’s kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven, his kingdom which awaits his return for its full consummation. In the meantime – this “already, not-yet” season – restoration, the good news, the ministry of reconciliation is not just about the salvation of souls, it is the (re)patterning of this world after God’s image insofar as possible. To be good stewards and witnesses to all of His creation – which includes environmental stewardship, stewardship which lauds and partners with initiatives wherever they may be found, even with political partners you might disagree with on other matters; initiatives that are consistent with a full gospel to all creation. To talk of the love of God and witness and to narrow the work of the cross to saving souls within a disconnected sub-culture is to be witness to a shallow and disembodied gospel. We are stewards to an inaugurated kingdom that is re-patterning all creation after His image, for now in part, in future in full. And this includes environmental stewardship.

Robert said it a different way to me but my point is that, whatever we think of global warming, we must realise that polluting the earth is not doing anyone any good. If we really believe in helping the poor and the orphan, that must include destroying the systems that take advantage of the, poison them and remove from them the chance to grow. Our current way of managing planetary resources fits the bill.
