He wants it temporarily until we can figure things out. I don’t think what he said was that horrible. We have no way to vet these people. I’m not against refugees but in light of what’s happening right now it may not be that bad of an idea to hold off for a while until DC can get its act together.

Just what I said. They have no way to vet those coming out of Syria. Either there are no records or very little and in light of what’s going on I’m sure all of them will be completely honest.

So you heard the term used by Ben Carson – good; but do you know what it means in this context? There is an extensive process in place for political refugees, refugee of war and so on – if this is what you really mean by vetted. The guidelines of the process have been outlined by international agreements, the UN, the Hague Declaration of 1899 and much more:

1. Refugee to the US process takes between 9-24 months depending on the waiting list. After 9/11 was longer 2. Referral is needed first from proper agency like the United Nations, High Commissioner for Refugees or some other 3. Interview by the Department of Homeland Security follows 4. Then, an exhaustive security and background checks with several different US agencies 5. Full medical checks, vaccinations, finger prints, blood test, bio information for different government databases and so on

And this is just for refugee status, not residency or citizenship, which takes much more checks and time. So there is a very detailed and working way to vet refugees.

But if there is no info on them, do we take their word for it? It’s been stated that there is no info on a lot of these people. And during an interview, even as thorough as they can be, if I had plans to wage Jihad I certainly wouldn’t be honest about it.
