I read the list there, and I was like, ‘Huh?’ I’m not familiar with the author’s frame of reference. Maybe there is some kind of placenta-based witchcraft going on there.
I have translated for an African preacher in Indonesia. I saw him a few days ago. He was talking about a preacher who asked a witchdoctor to help him grow his church. The man took him to a certain place, he said, and he saw a mermaid. He said mermaids sleep with witchdoctors. I said that didn’t make sense. They have fish parts. But, no, they turn into women first. He believed these things were spirits, though, water spirits.
I’ve got a western missionary friend who has talked about being sexually assaulted by a demon as a new believer when he hadn’t yet given up his vouyerism. He’s very intellectual. Then there is that whole debate about where the Nephelim came from.
Anyway, I digress. The African preacher occasionally says some stuff that to my ears seems rather weird about demons. Demonology seems to be informed by local witchcraft beliefs. My wife brought up the flying head witch doctors of Kalimantan (Borneo), kuyung, who are said to have heads that separate from their bodies dragging neatly wrapped esophagus behind, seeking new born babies so they can drink their blood. I had dinner once with the sister-in-law of a COG (GBI that is) preacher who said she didn’t believe in kuyung until she saw one flying behind their car when they went to Kalimantan. She’s Dayak, from the area. Her husband said if you ask people who live there, they say if you are there briefly, you probably won’t see there, but those who have lived there a long time have. My wife went into that area and there were a lot of people who worshipped idols and lots of mentally ill people in the village she visited.
As far as this stuff goes, if demons were behind turning sticks into snakes in Egypt, maybe they can transform matter. Or they may be able to alter people’s perceptions of reality, or project images, so that people see, feel, or touch mermaids or see flying head witchdoctors. Or maybe the heads really fly.. Maybe it’s something like a demonic holodeck.
Back to placentas and the post, I just wonder how Biblical it is that if we are concerned about some kind of witchcraft, if we start using Jesus name to break this and break that and declare this or that. There is an example of commanding a demon to come out in Jesus’ name. But what about this other stuff?
It’s hard to comment on some of this, since I don’t know their beliefs. Do witchdoctors obtain placentas and perform witchcraft with them?

I remember vaguely reading about some new thing where mothers eating the placenta of their new born containing the actual stem cells. It was connected with some ancient ritual that if not eaten some with can eat/use it. Wish I take notes like William DeArteaga and could easily come up with the actual source when needed in a discussion like that. Do you think it is only an African phenomenon? called placentophagy – while it’s not a new idea, it’s been getting a lot of buzz lately. I saw some placenta pills for skin in a store in Jakarta once. I was totally shocked that such cannibalism was allowed and that such a thing could be sold. There are also people who drink cobra’s blood. The former president’s doctor’s wife, a former co-worker of mine, and a Muslim, would drink it. Drinking blood is against Islam, but she considered it exempt since she considered it to be medicine.

But you guys are missing the title of the article. DELIVERANCE from “placenta bondage”. I thought I’d seen and heard it all. But , apparently, I now understand why “Pentecostalism” is such a big hit in African countries. It’s because before they hear anything about Jesus, they’re grandly superstitious and caught up in all sorts of nonsense. Then, when they DO hear about Jesus, it’s usually from some quasi-“Pentecostal” who does nothing else but talk about deliverance. No theology, no discipleship, no standard Christianity. They just hold dramatic services with “child prophets” or other sensational nonsense. The people come dressed up to church in their best (this kind of prideful flaunting of appearance, dress, financial status etc. was only supposed to be a white people thing right?) to watch the “drama”. And those rich Nigerian or other preachers certainly know how to serve up drama! But go to any one of the congregants from these churches and ask them to explain, simply, from Scripture, how one is born again and justified or where in Scripture it talks about enduring faith and suffering and you’ll see a blank look on the face. Such a Pentecostalism is, in fact, a parody of Christianity and not the real thing. And the sick thing is that a lot of these “showman” pastors talk and flaunt as if they really have a power anointing from the Holy Spirit (the old TBN trick) and do a lot of stage theatrics. The people, raised up on superstition and gullibility, eat it up. “Oh, Dr. so-and-so is a GREAT man of God. Yes, very powerful and anointed.” Meanwhile he’s walking (no, wait, DRIVING in his Lexus or better) all the way to the bank, laughing his head off! If you can get 2000 people together and each contributes a $1, that’s $2000 right there. Half for maintaining whatever tent or church they meet in half the BIG MAN. And so on. Easy money. Next Sunday’s message? “Receive the Anointing So You Can Walk in VICTORY!” After that? “Obeying the Prophet’s Word” Those people don’t even know the Book of Acts and the Epistles well enough I’ll bet!

One of my children was born in Indonesia. One of the cleaning service was asking me what to do with the placenta. I said something along the lines of throw it away. They wanted cash to bury it. I was wondering why they were hitting me up for money. My wife said many Indonesians believed that a placenta was a miscarried twin, and it was cruel to them to say just throw it away. Apparently, they didn’t just throw the thing out with the medical waste at the hospital either because it was the custom to bury it. And it turns out they wnated just a little money, by my standards. So I paid them to bury it.

Walter Polasik I believe this case, the hospital didn’t just dispose of placentas because of social customs, or my wife just wanted it buried so they wouldn’t think us cruel. Her people usually bury the placenta. She’s Indonesian. As long as there is no strange ritual involved, it wodn’t bother me.

Oh, your WIFE is Indonesian. Well, that’s interesting. It’s true, you have to look at things carefully, sometimes on a case-by-case basis. But, I’ve just seen so much hucksterism and fakery, not least from that part of the world, that I understand why good Gospel missionaries tell cautionary tales both about indigenous versions of Christianity as well as about Charismatic evangelists.

Just read Acts and see how many and quite strange demonic occurrences they had to deal with I dont quite agree with all that’s going on but lets no easily discard the whole world via our own imperialistic mission mindedness …

Troy Day, neither the Old Testament nor New Testament mention a ‘Jezebel spirit.’ I assume people mean a principality by that term, some kind of fallen angel and/or demon. I’m not saying it couldn’t exist, just that the Bible doesn’t address the topic.

I disagree. Both OT and NT mention Jezebel who had a spirit. So there you have it. Also Revelation does not speak of an actual physical Jezebel but of her spirit abiding in a church. It is commonly accepted the Revelation women described as Jezabel was not called actually that except in the Spirit vision of John and by the Spirit speaking to the churches. Jezebel spirit was very much in Revelation – 3rd wavers today just make it a bit more commercially appealing … Oh and BTW Psalm 2 does not command them to kiss the Son in the future but in a very imperative present tense 🙂 meaning He had to have been the Son right there and right then

Troy Day, No, Revelation does not say anything about Jezebel’s spirit being in the church. Someone was called ‘that woman Jezebel.’ That doesn’t mean she was possessed by the dead woman’s ghost. It doesn’t even mean the same demon was on her that was on Jezebel. That’s possible, I suppose, but it is speculation.
I hear the ‘Jezebel spirit’ accusation has been used to label women who are outspoken, or controlling, or not liked for whatever reason. There is also the potential that a leader or someone else in the congregation who feels threatened by or uncomfortable around someone else could just accuse that person of having some kind of demon, and get them kind of ostracised without accusing them of a concrete sin.
‘That woman Jezebel’ was teaching the people to commit fornication and to eat meat offered to idols, not just be controlling (or even wear makeup). I don’t see that much of a connection between this and some of the ideas I’ve encountered from the pop Charismatic/Third Wave teachings on the subject.
I can’t remember who was arguing against eternal Sonship, but I don’t know if you’ll get his agreement based on that.
